PROFILIN’: BIRDMAN
The evolution of douche.
If he wasn’t wearing an NBA uniform you’d say this guy got hooked on meth somewhere in the middle.
New Orleans is a wild town, and leaves it’s mark on everyone who enters.

The Advocate(New Orleans Edition) vs. The Times Picayune
Last night at the Krewe of Nereus ball the tableau(play) featured a bunch of rich white New Orleanians throwing their support behind The Advocate as Newhouse Publications has stopped daily publication(Now it’s just 3 days a week) of the profitable Times Picayune. With staff members being cut, and former editors going to The Advocate(the daily paper out of Baton Rouge which has recently created a New Orleans daily paper) I see the Times Picayune shifting from profitability to a forgotten relic of NOLA that we all loved. It’s a shame as NOLA was one of the few cities that had high readership amongst it’s daily paper, but Newhouse/Advance Publications needed to test out their plan for the future. They chose us, but will soon be doing this in other markets. Another sad moment in the recent decay of local journalism.
The Q Dinner
One of the things that I do around Christmas in NOLA is go to a ball. Beforehand the members get together for dinner. The past five years or so it’s been at Redfish Grill.
The best steak I’ve ever had! We also had great hors d’ourves, but I was too busy devouring them to get a photo :(. In the past we’d have chocolate bread pudding with a huge wedge of white chocolate/dark chocolate on top that they would melt table side by pouring hot chocolate sauce over it. This year they served a bread pudding with a streusel topping. It was good, but I was so stuffed that I couldn’t put it down. I’m sure I would have tried had it been the chocolate, but I’m certain I would have puked from gluttony.
The restaurant is right next to a Hustler store on Bourbon Street haha!
We had a police escort which is awesome! Gotta love NOLA!
It wasn’t a pretty season, but anything can happen in the playoffs!
The last two weeks of the season my team performed poorly stemming from Drew Brees’ funk. He picked it up to finish the NFL season as the top performing fantasy player, and my team reaped the benefits as I also have Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham. Knowshon Moreno was solid the last six weeks of the season, and Dez Bryant was nearly a guarantee from week 10 on! The Bronco’s Defense and Gostkowski were constantly solid throughout the season, and David Wilson, Mikel Leshoure, and Denario Alexander performed well as they rotated through my lineup the last half of the season.
It was a truly great experience as a first time fantasy player, and I certainly had everything come together during the playoffs where I went on a four week winning streak.
Thanks you ESPN, FX, The League, and the NFL for supplying us with so much fun! As the playoffs begin FFL ends, but the Super Bowl is coming to NOLA so I can’t be too bummed haha.
Happy New Year’s Eve everybody!
Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays from The Dode!
I’m down in NOLA, so I’ve been able to see 100+/- family members I don’t normally get to see, and since I’m gonna be here for a bit I’m actually going to get to hang out with them in the future!
On Christmas Eve my extended family has mass in one of our family members homes, and we have have a local priest come to the house. It’s a really neat way to celebrate(not that I’m the most religious). Afterwards we have a wide variety of hors d’oeuvres(little ham sandwiches, shrimp/crab in various preparations, and plenty of cheeses), wine, drinks, and desserts. Think something Downton Abbey-esque(upstairs). Sadly, I’m not loaded, but luckily my extended family is!
Christmas Dinner is usually held today at my grandmother’s house… except my aunt and cousin have really let the house go, so my Uncle took us out to a nice local restaurant. I think for the sake of family stuff I(and my father) prefer the home style dinner, but I can’t complain about the wide variety of choices. Any day where I can say my dinner was turtle soup, roasted duckling a l’orange, and Bouche de Noel is a great day!
NOLA, and my family have treated me well this holiday season!
I can’t wait for New Year’s Eve!

The Short Order: New Orleans
Chef John Besh, one of the founding fathers of new NOLA cuisine dishes out his favorite restaurants, tailors, and fly-fishing stores in the Big Easy.

“The go-to tailor in New Orleans. He’ll do everything from a perfectly hand-fitted suit to Le Chameau boots. Being on my feet all day, I really care about the shoes that I wear. A lot of times I wear these really obscure things like Sven clogs. But if I’m out in the woods hunting or taking a stroll somewhere on the North Shore on a cold winter day, I want leather-lined Le Chameau boots.”
As someone who visits New Orleans once or twice a year it’s always nice to what the city has to offer. I don’t usually get around to adventuring due to my schedule, but pieces like this are great as a grouping of helpful hints.
Octopus hatching.
“I’ma eat dat.” - My first thought. I’ve had octopus prepared a few different ways. At my fav Sushi place in NOLA, HANA, they serve octopus with some noodles and shrimp sauce as an amuse-bouche. Tasty stuff!

NOLA HYATT Regency
I stayed it this hotel two months before Katrina. Our room had a balcony, and we’d throw coffee/soap into the pool. We also lit the bricks on fire with cologne. We had no idea we were 60 days away from the last time that hotel would be open.

I’m done with just asking for names!
Facebook isn’t any help trying to find someone unless they already know a handful of your friends. I searched upside down, backwards and forwards on any spelling of the name Callie/Cali/Caley/also with k’s.
I’m asking for number’s for now on.
